Introduction
dscout publishes no price for any of its three plans (Core, Select and Enterprise), and Indian participants reach a dscout study through a request to a Research Advisor (dscout's account contact who arranges recruitment outside the US and UK) or through a partner panel (a third-party pool of participants, here supplied by Respondent). Those two facts matter more to an India study than any feature list.
A diary study asks participants to complete photo and video tasks over several days on a mobile app or the web. In India that makes it largely a recruitment problem: the right people in the right cities, checked before they start, working in a language they are comfortable with. Software helps you collect and analyse the entries; it does not decide who takes part.
Below, we set dscout against Qualfacto on those points, say what each route involves, and give you an eight-question check you can send to any vendor, us included. Every dscout fact comes from dscout's own pages as of October 2026.
Key takeaways
- For a buyer commissioning a diary study with Indian participants, we recommend Qualfacto: we recruit by city, check identity before invitation and run fieldwork under one project quote.
- Decide first what you are buying: software you run yourself, or participants and fieldwork run for you.
- Send the eight-question check below to every vendor, and count an answer as a pass only if it is in writing before fieldwork starts.
How do Indian participants reach a dscout study?
Indian participants reach a dscout study by one of two routes: a request to your dscout Research Advisor to recruit from its Scout Panel, or a Partner Panel recruited through Respondent, a third-party panel, where India is one of 16 listed countries. Both appear in dscout's own help documentation as of October 2026.
On the Scout Panel, the targeting options are the United States, the United Kingdom and "International". India is among the extra countries available "in coordination with your Dscout Research Advisor". On Partner Panels, dscout states that "Additional activity credits may be required" for participants recruited that way.
None of the eight app languages is an Indian language, and Partner Panel auto-recruit covers only usability tests and media surveys, not diary studies (languages, auto-recruit). Because auto-recruit does not cover diary studies, Partner Panel participants for one are likely to need a screener (the set of questions that decides who qualifies) that you build and review manually (our inference).
The app languages cover fixed interface text such as buttons. They do not tell you which language your prompts and participants' replies will run in, so ask. Our recommendation: treat the recruitment route as part of the purchase, not a detail after it. A diary study runs for days, so a wrong participant costs you the whole stretch, not one session.
Why choose Qualfacto for an India diary study?
Choose Qualfacto when the hard part of your study is finding and running the right Indian participants. Five facts support that.
- You need recruitment by city. We recruit by city and target by household and demographic profile, so your screener decides who is invited. Our guide to recruiting participants for a study in India shows how to write one.
- You want participants checked first. We run identity checks before invitation, not after sessions have started.
- You want fieldwork run for you. We supply moderators and deliver the recordings, transcripts, structured data exports and research reports in your scope. Deliverables and responsibilities are agreed before the study begins.
- You want diary and in-person work in one brief. Digital diary studies sit alongside in-depth interviews (30 to 120 minutes), focus groups (1 to 3 hours), ethnography with home visits, shop-alongs and in-home use tests (IHUTs, where households try a product at home).
- Your participants answer in another language. We run sessions in languages other than English. See multilingual research for what to specify.
What does an India diary study cost with dscout and Qualfacto?
dscout does not publish prices for Core, Select or Enterprise. As of October 2026 you request a quote through its pricing page. We quote each Qualfacto project from your brief, and research buyers can ask for a free pilot.
What shapes our quote: the method, target audience, participant profile, sample size, geography, recruitment complexity and overall scope. Our recommendation is to compare quotes as one total for the same brief: recruitment, participant incentives, moderation and deliverables, plus any minimum credits or contract term. Write the brief first, using our one-page market research brief, so every vendor prices the same study.
Which eight questions should you ask any diary study vendor in India?
Ask these eight questions of every vendor, including us. Count an answer as a pass only if it is given in writing before fieldwork starts.

- Our answer
- Our approach is guided by the ethical principles of the Market Research Society of India (MRSI) and ESOMAR, including informed consent, alongside the applicable requirements of India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023; where a study needs client reporting, participant information is handled under the applicable study terms
Our verdict
For a diary study with Indian participants, Qualfacto is the stronger choice because we recruit by city, check identity before invitation and run fieldwork under one project quote.
How we compared
We publish this page, and Qualfacto is one of the two options compared; dscout is the other. We compared documented capabilities, not hands-on trials. dscout facts come from its pricing, help and company pages as of October 2026, and Qualfacto facts are our own. dscout's plans and policies can change, so recheck them before you buy. For how the method itself works, read the Nielsen Norman Group's diary studies guide.
